Ogallala, Nebraska – September 16th night – 17th

Well packing up on Friday ran into a little hiccup. After emptying the black water tank the shut off valve got stuck open. Kinda a crappy way to start the day. I called around to 5 different RV shops to see if I could stop by and have them look at it. But they were all booked up for a couple of weeks. I decided that I would just continue on my journey and go with the flow. (OK how many more bad puns can I throw in there or would that just mean this blog post is going down the drain)

It was a beautiful drive.  Felt like I was driving through a Microsoft wallpaper with the clouds.

Anyway, I got to Ogallala and they had the card of an RV specialist there. I called him and told him what was going on. He said what I needed was a Twist On Waste Valve. He said he was out but normally charged $40 for it. He then went on to say that it’s cost is $25 but that he’s a crook and that’s why he charges $40. I told him that he can’t be that much of a crook because he didn’t charge me $75 to come out and look at my problem when he already knew he couldn’t fix it.

So I then went to have dinner at Ole’s Big Game Steakhouse in Paxton which was about 20 minutes away. This was a recommendation from a client. This place has been open since the 1930’s. And had quite the arrangement of taxidermy animals. I wouldn’t take a PETA activist here but if you enjoy a good steak then make sure you drop by.

I had never heard of Country Bob’s steak sauce. I asked the waitress about it and she said it’s a Nebraska thing.20160916_205052 20160916_205106 20160916_205132 20160916_205217 20160916_205238 20160916_205252 20160916_205321

Also my first time trying Empyrean Ales from Lincoln. Very good.

The next morning I drove out to Lake McConaughy. The lake was built in the sand hills so the beaches are lovely.

One of the other local attractions is a petrified wood museum. Two twin brothers had collected all these during their lifetime and they now have them on display at this public museum in Ogallala.

The brothers are 89 years old and they were both there manning the shop. Enjoyed getting to talk to them. I also didn’t realize that there were so many types of petrified wood from all over the world.

Tomorrow on to Lincoln. I was going to include it in this entry but I think it’s gotten long enough as it is. I have three stops to include and that’s a lot of pictures.
